Who we are

An all-encompassing principal contractor for Modbury, Plymouth, and the South Hams.

Mr Builder Co. was founded in 2008 by James Francis and Paul Williams. Friends from school, James had spent time learning and honing his trade as a builder, while Paul had returned from travelling to become a quantity surveyor, building surveyor and accomplished tradesman.

Together we decided that there was a way to deliver a better service to clients in the building industry with greater transparency, open communication and an approach that delivers quality, value, and trust. Since then, the business has grown. James remains in situ as the owner, and Paul continues to be integral to delivering the standard of service that we pride ourselves on.

Today Mr Builder Co. is an all-encompassing principal contractor for the Modbury, Plymouth and the South Hams areas, taking a project from foundation to decoration and handling all the project management along the way.

We aim to provide a consultancy-style approach that helps homeowners to navigate the building industry and achieve the results that they want for their property. We don’t ask for any deposit upfront, we operate on fortnightly payments in arrears. We also provide you with a clear schedule and key dates, so you know what to expect and when you need to have made decisions about details including tiles, fixtures, fittings, and decorations.

Central to our work is our trusted team of employed staff and subcontractors. We all have a track record of working together to meet deadlines and budgets. That includes everything from electricians and plumbers to plasterers and tilers, people we trust. For us, everything is about providing warranty and accountability.

Our values

It has always been important to us to provide a service that property owners can trust. If we give you a price for a job it’s because we fully expect it to come in at that amount unless plans are substantially changed, and that if we get a trade discount on materials, you can trust it will be passed onto you in the project fees.

We believe strongly that good communication is the key to a successful project. For example, many of our clients do not live locally, and we want them to feel safe in the knowledge that their vision for their home is on track and being realised in their absence. Wherever you are, we keep you informed by phone, video call, and email, and when you visit the site, we will look forward to speaking to you there as well.
